Making a will not only allows you to provide for
your loved ones it also can help the charities that you care about. However
there are some important things to consider -
Consult a solicitor
The cost of a solicitor preparing a will can be
surprisingly small - especially if you consider the money that could be lost
without one. Your solicitor will ensure that your will is legally correct,
unambiguous and easy to carry out.
They will help to ensure that your intentions are
worded to avoid mistakes or any misinterpretations of your wishes after your
death. This will ensure that your money and property really do reach the people
and organisations you wish to help.
To
save time present your solicitor with as much written information as possible,
for example -
-
The
approximate value of your home and other property
-
The approximate
value of financial assets, bank and savings accounts
-
A list of
people and charities including full names and addresses to which you
want to leave money or possessions.
Tax Benefits
Remember that Vale Wildlife rescue is a registered
charity therefore all legacies we receive are free from Inheritance Tax.
Charitable legacies are subtracted from the value of your estate when total
tax liability is calculated, so your dependants may have to pay less tax.
Wording
If you are kind enough to bequeath to Vale Wildlife
Rescue all you need to do is write in your will "I give x % of the
residue of my estate to 'Vale Wildlife Rescue', Station Road, Beckford,
Tewkesbury, Gloucester, GL20 7AN, registered Charity No. 702888."
If you prefer to leave a specific amount the wording
changes to 'the sum of £......' instead of 'x% of the residue of my
estate'.
Then finally add, 'I further direct that the receipt
of the Treasurer or other proper officer of the Trust shall be a full
sufficient discharge for the legacy.
